February 2016 Special Town Meeting Adjourned
The Sudbury Board of Selectmen, Moderator Michael Fee, and Town Manager Melissa Murphy-Rodrigues would like to thank all the residents who attended Special Town meeting on Tuesday, February 9, 2016.
176 residents filled the Lincoln Sudbury Regional High School auditorium to consider important town business regarding Minuteman Regional Vocational High School and the disposition of the former police station.
After various presentations and debate, the Town voted to approve a new regional agreement for the Minuteman School District and to withdraw from the Minuteman School District. If the regional agreement is approved by all 16 towns and the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, the Town could be withdrawn from the district as soon as July 2017.
All 16 towns in the Minuteman School District will vote by March 1, 2016.
Article 3, which pertained to the Town of Wayland’s withdrawal from the Minuteman District, was indefinitely postponed.
“As usual, I was impressed by the depth of insight and courtesy displayed by all town meeting participants,” Michael Fee said after the meeting.
The Town also voted to allow the Board of Selectmen to sell the old police station located on Boston Post Road. James Kelly, the Combined Facilities Director, presented the article and detailed the tax revenue that could be earned by the community as well as the costs of maintaining the vacant building. The property will now go out to public bid.
“I would like to thank all the residents who joined us last night,” stated Town Manager Melissa Murphy-Rodrigues. “And I would like to recognize all the efforts of Town officials to make each Town Meeting successful.”
