Sudbury to Vote in Minuteman District Wide Election
For immediate release
On September 20, 2016, residents of the Town of Sudbury will head to the polls to vote in a Special Referendum to borrow money for a school construction project for Minuteman Regional Vocational High School.
The Special Election will be held from 12PM-8PM at Town Hall only. All Sudbury voters will report to Town Hall to cast their vote. The date, time and location were all set by the Minuteman School Committee.
Sudbury withdrew from the Minuteman School District, but remains in the district until July 1, 2017. Per the regional agreement, the Town of Sudbury will not be liable for assessment as members on this debt, but the Town still has full rights to participate in district decisions until the withdrawal date.
“Basically, we have all the rights of the other members in the regional district at this time,” Town Manager Melissa Murphy-Rodrigues explained. “We have the right to weigh in on decisions until July 1, 2017, our official withdrawal date, but per the agreement, we will not be burdened with any debt assessed due to this new construction or any debt incurred by this election.”
The election will be determined by a majority and there is no minimum number of voters required. Not every town needs to approve the bond, but rather a majority of the total number of votes cast in all the towns.
