The League of Women Voters is sponsoring a virtual public forum about PFAS, Forever Chemicals on Monday, March 11th at 7:30 pm. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, per- and polyfluorinated substances, or PFAS, are a group of chemicals used to make fluoropolymer coatings and products that resist heat, oil, stains, grease, and water. PFAS can be found in a wide range of consumer products, from lipstick to raincoats to non-stick cookware. These chemicals do not break down in the environment, can move through soils and contaminate drinking water sources, and can build up in fish and wildlife.

The Sudbury Water District reports it has detected PFAS in the water supply at concentrations “relatively close” to the State’s maximum concentration limit. Vincent Roy, Executive Director of the Sudbury Water District, will be attending the forum to discuss this important issue.
