Engineering Summer Intern – Public Works

The Town of Sudbury Engineering Department is looking for a summer intern to join the department. This is a 35 hours/week internship from 8AM to 3:30PM (Hours can be flexible). Work is expected to be in the office and in the field.  

Position Description
Intern works under the direction of Town Engineer, Assistant Town Engineer and Civil Engineer. The Engineering Internship provides an opportunity to gain hands-on civil engineering experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with permit processing and plan review.
  • Perform asset management related data entry and edits.
  • Conduct site inspection and generate inspection reports.
  • Assist with property research.
  • Assist with land surveying.
  • Assist with other Engineering Department related tasks.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to walk job sites and construction areas
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally
  • Comfortable working both indoors and outdoors

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Construction Management, GIS or a related discipline through an ABET – accredited or similarly recognized college or university
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and general computer applications

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, People GIS and ESRI GIS products
  • Interest in Public Service
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

 

Pay Rate: $16.50/hour.  This is a temporary position not eligible for benefits.
