A Virtual Design Public Hearing will be hosted on the MassDOT website to present the design for the proposed project in Sudbury, MA on Thursday, May 15, 2025 at 6:30PM.

Purpose:

The purpose of this hearing is to provide the public with the opportunity to become fully acquainted with the proposed project. All views and comments submitted in response to the hearing will be reviewed and considered to the maximum extent possible.

Proposal:

The proposed project consists of extending the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail (BFRT) approximately 1.3 miles from the existing terminus at the Sudbury Diamond Railroad Crossing to Eaton Road W in Framingham. The proposed trail will be a 10 foot paved shared-use path along the former railroad corridor with 2 foot dense graded crushed stone shoulders, consistent with the other portions of the BFRT in Sudbury and Concord. Sidewalks and pedestrian curb ramps at the at-grade intersection of the trail and Route 20 are proposed to be updated to create an ADA compliant and accessible crossing at the existing signalized intersection of Nobscot Rd/Route 20. A new paved parking lot is also being proposed along Nobscot Road, approximately 550 feet south of Route 20. Other work includes fixing or replacing culverts and stream crossings where necessary and implementing safety fencing along the trail where appropriate.

A secure right-of-way is required for this project. Acquisitions in fee and permanent or temporary easements may be required. The Town of Sudbury and City of Framingham are responsible for acquiring all needed rights in private or public lands. MassDOT’s policy concerning land acquisitions will be presented in the hearing.

Project inquiries, written statements and other exhibits regarding the proposed undertaking may be submitted to Carrie E. Lavallee, P.E., Chief Engineer, via e-mail to MassDOTProjectManagement@dot.state.ma.us or via US Mail to Suite 7550, 10 Park Plaza, Boston, MA 02116, Attention: Project Management, Project File No. 613319. Statements and exhibits intended for inclusion in the hearing transcript must be emailed or postmarked no later than ten (10) business days (14 calendar days) after the hearing is hosted.
