Josiah Frost, Former Fire Chief, Passes Away

The Sudbury Fire Department regrets to announce the passing of Josiah Frost, Chief of Department from 1975 to 1983. Calling hours are Thursday November 1, 2007 from 3-7 pm at Duckett’s Funeral Home at 656 Boston Post Road, Sudbury. Brief services will follow. A private burial is planned.
Josiah joined the Sudbury Fire Department in 1937 as a call firefighter. When the call department became a permanent department, Josiah worked his way through the ranks, becoming Lieutenant in 1963, then Captain in 1967, and finally Chief in 1975. Josiah also served with distinction as President of the Fire Chief’s Association of Massachusetts, working many hours on Beacon Hill lobbying for legislation favorable to the fire service.
The Massachusetts Firefighting Academy came into being during Josiah’s years and his influence in its development was instrumental in its becoming the vibrant, statewide organization that it is today.
After retirement, Josiah served on the Board of Selectmen for the Town of Sudbury for one term.
Josiah’s two sons also served full careers on the Sudbury Fire Department. David served from 1963 to retirement in 2003, and Peter served from 1970 until March of this year, retiring after 37 years.
