State Fire Marshal Stephen D. Coan, Sudbury Fire Chief William Miles, and Sudbury Police Chief Scott Nix announced the cause of the January 19, 2016 fire at 4 Brooks Road is arson. It appears that someone forced their way into the single family home prior to the fire which was set in a second floor bedroom. No one was home at the time of the fire; there were no casualties, but the family’s cat did perish in the fire that caused an estimated $350,000 in damages.

Anyone who saw or heard anything around 7:30 p.m. that night are asked to call the Arson Hotline at 1-800-682-9229, confidentially, 24-hours a day, or the Sudbury Police Department at 978-443-1042. The Arson Hotline is part of the Arson Watch Reward Program that provides rewards of up to $5,000 for information that helps solve the case. The program is funded by the property and casualty insurance companies of Massachusetts.

The fire is being jointly investigated by the Sudbury Fire and Police Departments and State Police assigned to the office of the State Fire Marshal.
