As the SHC Town web site states, the SHC was established in 1968 under Section 8D of Chapter 40 of the General Laws of the Commonwealth for the preservation, protection and development of Sudbury’s historical and archaeological assets which include all aspects of historic buildings including Hosmer House Museum activities, structures and properties (including Town cemeteries) owned by the Town. The SHC is also responsible for administering the demolition delay by law passed by the Town of Sudbury in 2004 which enables the SHC to require a six month delay in demolition of buildings deemed to be of historical significance. The SHC is also responsible for updating its historic building inventories of buildings in Sudbury built prior to 1940 and developing a historic preservation plan including procedures for protecting historic structures in Sudbury that are not within the current 5 Sudbury Historic Districts.

The SHC is looking for a new member with a strong historic preservation background and interest to assist with and support the above responsibilities. SHC members are expected to prepare for and attend monthly evening meetings and to actively participate in these preservation efforts.
