Through late summer and in to the fall the Planning and Community Development office has shaped a scope of work and procured services for the 25% design along the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail corridor to MassDOT standards. Staff has obtained the services of Vanasse Hangen Brustlin, Inc. (VHB) to complete the 25% Design Plan and work is to begin right away. Early survey and data collection will begin over the winter and public engagement will kick off early in the new year.

VHB has a long history of being a leader in rail trail design and planning throughout Massachusetts. Most notably in our region VHB has played an active role in the completion of segments of rail trails from Blackstone, Bedford, Cape Cod, and Watertown, just to name a few. The Town looks forward to this ongoing partnership as we progress through the two year 25% design process. A town wide rail trail kickoff forum will take place in late January with several other opportunities for active dialogue and participation to follow.
