The Planning Board will hold a public forum on walkway construction priorities for the $200,000 of Community Preservation Act funds recently approved at Town Meeting.  In 2006, the Planning and Community Development Department, in conjunction with the DPW Director and the Police Safety Officer, instituted a new process for prioritizing walkway construction, requiring increased resident participation in the process. Residents desiring walkways in their neighborhoods are asked to work with their neighbors to gain support for walkway construction. Each petition submitted for review is required to have the support of at least 75% of the affected property owners, and a neighborhood coordinator must to be identified. Working together for a common goal has made the process easier and more acceptable.

Although the deadline to submit petitions was February, 2008, due to the funds received at Town Meeting and the small number of petitions received, additional requests will be reviewed until the funds have been fully expended.

Recommendations will be presented to the Planning Board for a public discussion on June 11, 2008 at 7:30 pm at Town Hall.  All interested residents are invited to attend this meeting.
