Register to Vote for the November 2, 2004 Election

Town Clerk, Barbara Siira has announced that Wednesday, October 13, 2004 will be the last day to register to vote in the upcoming November 2nd election. Registrations sessions will be held in the Town Clerk’s Office, 322 Concord Road, Sudbury on October 13th from 8:30 a.m. until 8 p.m.
Anyone who is a citizen of the United States and a resident of Massachusetts and those who will be 18 years old on or before Election Day is eligible to register to vote. Those registering to vote using mail-in registration forms, must have their forms postmarked no later than October 13th in order to vote in the November 2nd election.
Because of a new federal law, the Help America Vote Act of 2002 passed by Congress, voters who register for the first time by mail will be required to show identification when they vote for the first time in a federal election. Those voters may either mail a copy of their identification to this office with their voter registration form or they will be required to show it when they vote on Election Day.
Acceptable identification must include the voter’s name and the address at which they are registered to vote, for example: a current and valid photo identification, current utility bill, bank statement, paycheck, government check, or other document showing the voter’s name and address.
The Help America Vote Act of 2002 requires voters who are required to show identification but do not may only cast a provisional ballot which will be counted later, but only after their eligibility to vote has been determined.
Other voters may be requested to show identification. Accordingly, it is recommended that all voters bring identification.
Voters will be electing a president and vice president, members of Congress, the state Senate and House of Representatives, Governor’s Council, and county officials. There is a non-binding public policy question as well.
