Why Work at the Polls?
To help America vote! There is a critical shortage of poll workers nationwide and Sudbury is no exception. Help strengthen our democracy, help strengthen your community, and help America vote.
What Does a Poll Worker Do?
Poll workers (election officials) are essential to the election process. Some tasks include:
- Checkers – check voters in via poll pad or voter list, provide ballot to voter
- Ballot Box Attendant – Supervises the ballot box, directs voter to cast ballot into the voting machine for their precinct
- Vote Tallying – Review voting machine totals and count write-in and unread ballots at end of day.
There are four shifts of duty on Election Day:
- 6:30AM – 2PM- Morning shift
- 2PM – End (around 9PM) Afternoon shift
- 6.30AM- End Full day
- 8PM – Completion of Tallying (Tally Tellers)
Poll workers are paid for the hours they work or they can be volunteers.
Poll Worker Requirements
- Poll Workers must be registered voters.
- Poll Workers are interviewed by the Town Clerk and appointed by the Select Board.
- Poll Workers must attend training prior to working at the polls.
