About Bruce Freeman Rail Trail 25% Design

The Town of Sudbury is the project proponent, coordinating and funding the project design, and has advanced the project to this preliminary design stage in coordination with MassDOT. The construction is estimated at $13.4 million dollars and will be funded through the Boston Metropolitan Planning Organization Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) in federal fiscal year 2022.  TIP projects are subject to a specific set of guidelines, including the 25% Design Public Hearing.  Following the Design Public Hearing, the Town will continue to advance the project design in close coordination with and meeting the requirements of MassDOT.

The 25% design is the preliminary design submission and specific design details, such as design specifications, landscaping, environmental mitigation, trail heads, signage, will be further refined as the design and permitting progress.  The Town will continue to engage with the public and abutters through this process.
