For years, amendments and additions to the Zoning Bylaw have been passed by Town Meeting in a patchwork fashion. For the past 18 months, with the assistance of zoning expert/attorney Mark Bobrowski, Town Boards have been working to bring the Bylaw up to date and to make it more coherent. The culmination of these efforts have resulted in the re-write of the zoning bylaw, to be presented at the fall Special Town Meeting.

Multi-board meetings will be held through the month of August to continue discussion of the proposed revisions. The meeting schedule is as follows:
Tuesday, August 8, 2000, 7:30 pm at the Fairbank Senior Center;
Tuesday, August 15, 2000, 7:30 pm at the Fairbank Senior Center;
Tuesday, August 22, 2000, 7:30 pm at the Fairbank Senior Center; and
[tentatviely] Wednesday, August 30, 2000, 7:30 pm at the Fairbank, Senior Center.

The ad-hoc committee comprised of representatives from the Board of Selectmen, Planning Board, Zoning Board of Appeals, Conservation Commission, Design Review Board and Board of Health will finalize the draft bylaw in time for the October Special Town Meeting. In addition, a public hearing will be held before the warrant goes to print in order to solicit comments from residents.

Interested residents are urged to participate early in the process. The bylaw can be obtained by calling the Planning Board office, or to download the document (on Internet Explorer) from the the town’s web site Click Here The draft currently under review is the Third Draft, dated 8/9/00. It can also be found on the web site under Committees, Planning Board, Documents.
