The Planning Board will host a public forum on the future of Route 20 with the installation of a sewer system. The forum will focus on zoning changes that could foster redevelopment of the corridor into a more compact and pedestrian accessible village. The meeting will be directed by planners from the Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC), which awarded Sudbury a technical assistance grant in the amount of $25,000 to undertake the project.

MAPC planners will use visual examples of other successful development schemes to help residents articulate a vision for Route 20, and residents will have the opportunity to vote by electronic key pad on what they want in the commercial district. Issues such as design criteria for new construction, parking, and inclusion of housing in the business district will also be discussed.

After the forum, MAPC will recommend regulatory changes to the Planning Board which are necessary to accomplish the vision, and will also discuss the impacts of any proposed zoning changes. These will be brought to Town Meeting at the appropriate time, in conjunction with the advancement of the sewer project design and construction.

The forum will take place on Wednesday, October 26, 2011 from 7:00 – 9:00 pm at Town Hall. Refreshments will be served. All are invited.
