Annual election could have contested races

In the four years Donna Cakert has held her position as de-facto district clerk for Lincoln and Sudbury, this is the first time she has seen five candidates run for Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School Committee.
“It’s probably the economy and it’s a fabulous opportunity to get involved in your children’s education,” said Cakert earlier this week.
In addition to the incumbents, two other candidates have taken out registration papers to run for the L-S School Committee. Robert C. Haarde, who took out papers for both L-S and SPS school committees, has until Feb. 25 to withdraw from one of them.
L-S School Committee member Mark Collins is running for another three-year term because he believes experience is increasingly important during periods of economic and political instability. “I know this community and I know state and local government,” said Collins, who is counsel for the Massachusetts House Ways and Means Committee, and a 1974 graduate of L-S, where his children now attend. “I know first-hand the value of educational opportunity and that’s why I remain convinced that our most prudent community investment is realized when we maintain our long-standing commitment to excellence in education.”
Consistent with the interest in education, four candidates have taken out papers for the Sudbury School Committee.
There are 15 official positions open for election March 30, according to Town Clerk, Rosemary Harvell. Interested candidates must file their intention with the Town Clerk on or before Thursday, Feb. 5 and return their nomination papers on or before Monday, Feb. 9. Thus far, 19 incumbents and candidates have taken out registration papers.
Tuesday, March 10, at 8 p.m., is the deadline for registering to vote at the annual Town Election and the annual Town Meeting. Voter registration is available each week day at the Town Clerk’s office in the Town Hall, 322 Concord Road, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., as well as at the Special Registration Session on Tuesday, March 10, from 8:30 to 8 p.m. A Mail-In Voter Registration form is also available at the Goodnow Library, the Post Office in Shaw’s Plaza and the Town Clerk’s office.
