In accordance with the provisions of section 6(h)(3) of Chapter 115 of the Acts of 2020, the Town of Sudbury will count the ballots returned by mail for the State Election that are received up to 5pm on November 6th if postmarked by November 3rd. This process will take place at the Lower Town Hall Meeting room, 322 Concord Road, Sudbury MA 01776 on November 9th at 10:00 AM. See Post Election Ballot Counting Notice for details.

VOTE BY MAIL BALLOTS will be mailed AFTER OCTOBER 5, 2020. To check the status of your Vote by Mail ballot, please visit Track My Ballot.

The Town Clerk’s office is working diligently to mail out the thousands of requested ballots as efficiently as possible. We respectfully request that, instead of calling or emailing our office, voters please use the convenient Track My Ballot feature. If your online record shows that your “Ballot Mailed” status is “Pending,” that means your Vote-by-Mail Application has been received and your ballot will be mailed shortly. If your status still shows as “Pending” by October 16, please contact us at clerk@sudbury.ma.us.
If you would like to Vote-By-Mail, but have not yet submitted an application, please use the Vote-by-Mail Application form.

The State/Presidential Election is scheduled for Tuesday, November 3, 2020.  On the back of the ballot are two Sudbury debt exclusion questions which refer to Articles 17 and 18 of the September 12, 2020 Annual Town Meeting.

Vote-By-Mail

To Vote-by-Mail, voters must request a Vote-by-Mail ballot. The deadline to apply for a Vote-by-Mail ballot for this election is 5:00 PM on Wednesday, October 28, 2020. Voters may sign up in one of two ways:

  1. Early Voting by Mail is available for all registered voters. To apply, complete the Vote-by-Mail Application.
  2. Absentee Voting is available for those who qualify. Learn more here: Vote By Mail Information
Emergency Absentee Ballots

If you have been admitted to a healthcare facility or you are instructed to quarantine in your home within 1 week of the election, you may use the absentee ballot application to designate someone of your choice to deliver a ballot to you.

The person you designate to deliver your ballot will need to bring the signed application to your local election office, pick up your absentee ballot, bring it to you, and return it for you by the close of polls on Election Day. Emergency ballots may be requested up until the close of polls.

When will Vote-by-Mail ballots be sent to voters?
Vote-by-Mail ballots are in the process of being sent out. The Town Clerk’s office is working diligently to mail out the thousands of requested ballots as efficiently as possible. If your online record shows that your “Ballot Mailed” status is “Pending,” that means your Vote-by-Mail Application has been received and your ballot will be mailed shortly. If I already applied to vote absentee for all elections earlier this year, do I need to fill out a Vote-by-Mail application?
No, there is no need to fill out another application. Please use Track My Ballot to check the status of your Vote-by-Mail ballot.

 

I have received my ballot but would like to vote in person instead. Is this allowed?
If you have requested a ballot but have not returned it to the Town Clerk’s office, you may still vote in person, as long as you do not return the completed ballot. Please note, if two ballots are received for one voter, the second ballot received will be VOID. In-Person Early Voting will take place October 17th through October 30th at Town Hall, Click here for hours and details.

 

What is the deadline to apply for Vote-by-Mail?
The deadline to apply for a vote by mail ballot is 5 PM on October 28, 2020. After that, voters may Early Vote in person (through October 30) or vote at their polling place on Election Day (Tuesday, November 3).

 

What is the deadline to return a Vote-by-Mail ballot?
All Mail-In ballots received by 5 PM on Election Day (11/3/20) will be counted by 8 PM that night. Ballots received between 5 PM and 8 PM on Election Day will be counted after the close of polls. Ballots postmarked by 11/3/20 and received in the Clerk’s office by 5 PM on 11/6/20 will be counted. Please note, Mail-In ballots received after 8 PM on 11/3 must have a postmark of 11/3/20 or sooner in order to be counted.

 

VOTE-BY-MAIL PROCESS
1. APPLY TO VOTE BY MAIL

The deadline to apply for a Vote-by-Mail ballot for this election is by 5:00 PM on Wednesday, October 28, 2020.  Applications should be filed with the Town Clerk’s office as soon as possible as it may take  5 to 8 days to receive your ballot.  Ballots are in the process of being mailed out.

2. COMPLETE & RETURN YOUR BALLOT

When you receive your Vote by Mail packet, complete your vote by:

  1. Fill out the ballot
  2. Place ballot in yellow envelope, SIGN YOUR NAME and seal the envelope
  3. Pace sealed, yellow envelope into white envelope and seal
  4. Return your ballot by MAIL or Drop off at BALLOT DROP BOX OUTSIDE the Town Clerk’s Office-  322 Concord Rd.

UPDATE 10/28/20: The Elections Division has issued a Directive in response to increased concern over attempts to interfere with ballots and ballot drop boxes, malicious or otherwise, as evidenced by a recent attack on a drop box in the City of Boston. An additional Halloween Directive has also been issued. As a result, Sudbury will take the security measures below. Please note, a monitored surveillance camera is present at the Goodnow Library Ballot Drop Box.

In Person Early Voting

Early Voting in person is available to all registered voters who prefer to cast their ballot prior to election day.  Facial coverings are required and social distancing must be observed.
