The 2000 Walkway Report identified several priority locations for walkways to be constructed. Over time the Town has referred back to this report and completed many of the walkways proposed. The most successful projects have been completed with the assistance of neighborhood walkway coordinators. The neighborhood walkway coordinator works directly with the Planning and Community Development Department and Department of Public Works to gather support within their neighborhoods for walkway construction. This may include handing out petitions, requesting a neighbor’s willingness to grant a walkway easement to the town, or discuss one on one with a neighbor the importance a walkway would mean to the neighborhood.

The following are outstanding walkways listed in the original 2000 Walkway Report which are in need of a walkway coordinator to step up and lead the way:

  • Concord Road – Thompson Drive to North Road
  • Dakin Road – Concord Town Line to Paddock Way & Philomen Whale Road to North Road
  • Dutton Road – Tanbark Road to Pratt’s Mill Road & Mass Central Tracks to Wayside Inn Road
  • Haynes Road – Willow Hill School to Pantry Road
  • Maynard Road – 51 Maynard Road to Hudson Road
  • Moore Road – White Oak Lane to Dutton Road
  • Mossman Road – Possum Lane to North Road
  • Old Sudbury Road – Fieldstone Farm Lane to Peter Noyes School
  • Peakham Road – 62 Peakham Road to Old Garrison Road
  • Powers Road – Powdermill Road to Concord Town Line
  • Puffer Lane – Village Road to North Road
  • Union Avenue – Boston Post Road to Concord Road
  • Willis Road – Ford Road to Mossman Road

The Planning Board will be holding a Walkway Public Forum in the Fall to prioritize walkway segments for construction funding. Now is a great time to get involved, and start discussing plans with your neighbors.
