DONATION OPPORTUNITIES

Gift Card Donations – Sudbury’s Board of Health Social Worker manages a gift card program that can pass along your donated gift cards to neighbors in need. 

  • Email gift cards to socialworker@sudbury.ma.us.
  • Mail to: Sudbury Social Worker c/o Sudbury BOH, 275 Old Lancaster Road, Sudbury, MA 01776.
  • Or drop them off at the Board of Health office at 275 Old Lancaster Road from 9am-3pm, Monday through Friday. 
  • Please be sure to write the amount on each gift card. If you are dropping off, please place in an envelope labeled “Sudbury Social Work Gift Card Drive.”

Food, Clothing, Toys, Household Goods Donations:

  • A Place to TurnProvides emergency food and clothing to neighborhoods in the MetroWest community through an atmosphere of caring and mutual respect. Donation hours: Mondays 10am -12pm; 99 Hartford Street, Natick MA; (508) 655-8868
  • Sudbury Community Food Pantry-Provides food assistance to those in need with quality food and open shelf access. Accepts: any nonperishable food items, cleaning supplies, hygiene products, and diapers. Drop off boxes are located at the front of the store by the cash registers at Sudbury Farms or Shaw’s Sudbury.   • Maynard Food PantryProvides food assistance to any individual or family in need in the towns of Maynard, Acton, Stow, and Sudbury. Accepts: nonperishable, unopened food.   • Open TableProvides healthy food, friendship, and support to those in need while respecting their privacy and dignity. Accepts: nonperishable, unopened food. Please check the “use by” date.   • Project Just BecauseHelping individual and families with basic needs through various programs. Is open to all residents of MA and no documents or IDs are required. Accepts: food items (cannot be homemade), new footwear, pajamas, undergarments blankets, sheets, hats & mittens, gently used clothing and coats. Items with rips, stains, broken zippers, or made with animal fur are not accepted. See the donation guideline here.
  • Cradles to CrayonsProvides everyday clothing essentials to local children in need. Accepts: new socks or undergarments and gently used clothing coats, hats, shoes, gloves, pajamas.   • Big Brother, Big SisterBBBS Foundation turns gently used goods into treasure by collecting used clothing & household items and converting them into money, giving 100% of profits to mentoring programs supporting more than 16,000 “littles” and “bigs” across Eastern MA and Southern NH.   • Solutions at WorkA nonprofit organization that strives to break the cycle of poverty and homelessness by providing individuals and families with resources and opportunities to strengthen their self-confidence, achieve self-sufficiency, and participate in helping others.   • Fresh Start Furniture BankA 100% volunteer-based charity, providing free furniture and home goods to people in need. Accepts: dressers, microwaves, full size blankets, student desk furniture, linens, and household goods. Items must be clean and in good working condition.   • The Wish Project – Serves as a critical resource for furniture, household goods, and baby needs serving families in need. Accepts: furniture, baby gear/goods, clothing, home goods, See the full list here.   • GoodwillA nonprofit that provides residents in communities with low-cost goods to support job training programs and the Pine Street Inn.   • Lincoln Sudbury Mutual Aid Facebook GroupA public platform for community members to provide support for residents of Sudbury and Lincoln to ask for help and/or offer aid. If you have a request for assistance, please submit a post. As with all online communications, when providing or receiving assistant to be mindful of the information you share, meet in public spaces, and put your safety first.   • Home 2 Homes – Accepting donated clothing, household items, toiletries, and infant/toddler needs.

Hygiene Product Donations

  • Sudbury CARE PantryProvides personal care products, laundry materials, and cleaning supplies to members of the community in need. Accepts: hygiene products, feminine products, and cleaning supplies. Sensitive-skin care, textured hair care products are always needed.   • Diaper Circle – A nonprofit organization that collects diapers and redistributes them to low-income families through partner agencies to promote infant and family health and wellbeing. Accepts: new unopened packs of diapers, opened packs of diapers, clean loose diapers, gift cards to places that sell diapers (to be used only by staff, not given directly to families), unopened containers of wipes, rewards points from Pampers (we use these to earn free diapers!).   • Dignity MattersA nonprofit organization that collects and supplies free feminine hygiene products and undergarments to more than 8,500 women and girls to help them stay healthy, regain self-confidence and live with basic dignity. Accepts: new or gently used bras, underpants with tags, feminine hygiene products. Building Material Donations

  • Boston Building ResourcesThe Reuse Center is a nonprofit organization that accepts donations of building materials and sells them at low prices to low- and moderate-income customers and nonprofit organizations. Please contact ahead of time to make sure materials are accepted. Donation guidelines here. Schedule a pickup (includes a $35 fee) or drop off with the donation offer form.   • Habitat for Humanity ReStore (MetroWest) – The Restore sells donated household appliances, furniture, building materials, etc, and uses the proceeds to fund to build homes, communities, and hope by ending poverty housing. Accepts: appliances, building materials, cabinets, architectural items, media, cabinets, doors, flooring, furniture, hardware, home décor, insulation, lighting, lumber, masonry, paint, plumbing fixtures & hardware, roofing materials & gutters, tools, vents, siding, windows/screens, exercise equipment. Medical Equipment and Supplies Donations:

  • Hospital Equipment Loan Program (H.E.L.P)To lend hospital equipment for home use to those in need at no cost. Accepts: durable medical equipment (DME) such as wheelchairs (vinyl leather), rollators, tub benches, hospital beds, sling lifts, canes, commodes, etc. is available to borrow free for home use. For a full list of accepted items visit the website. Does not accept c-pap machines or wound supplies. Donations of hospital beds are accepted only by appointments.   • REquipment – Helps provides individuals and families in Massachusetts with gently used, refurbished durable medical equipment at no cost. Accepts: power & manual wheelchairs, scooters, rollator walkers, tub seats & shower chairs, mechanical sling lifts, standing frames, bariatric & pediatric equipment.   • Non-Durable Medical Equipment (adult diapers, bed pads, wound care supplies, etc.) may be accepted by local rehab facilities and assisted living facilities and local group homes.

Miscellaneous Donations

  • HOPE SudburyEngages the people of Sudbury in community-wide efforts to provide humanitarian aid to people in need, both at home and abroad. Within Sudbury, donations help to pay residents’ bills in emergency situations.   • Bikes Not BombsRepurposed bikes to support social change to achieve economic mobility Black and other marginalized groups of people in Boston and the global South. Accepts, all types, all sizes, parts, tools, worn tires, accessories, cycling clothing, office supplies, and financial donations. Does not accepts rusted materials, kids scooters, anything with a gasoline motor, exercise equipment, tricycles, and trail-a-bikes.   • Earn a BikePromotes healthily living and community by teaching people how to maintain bicycles while giving them to the opportunity to earn a bike.   • Instrumental AngelsHelps children and veterans in need obtain musical instruments and accessories from the Greater Boston area to Cape Verde, and South Africa.   • Dress For SuccessEmpowers women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire, and the development tools to help women thrive in work and in life.  Monetary donations are also accepted online.
  • Gaining GroundGrows organics vegetables, and herbs for hunger relief. Accepts wheelbarrows, firewood, folding tables, kitchen chairs, bags of leaves, 8- or 16-oz mason jars, large Vermont garden cart, and wax box (preferable banana boxes). Pet Supply Donations:

  • Buddy Dog Humane SocietyCares for, and facilitates the placement of stray, homeless, and unwanted dogs and cats in suitable homes. Buddy Dog is a no-kill animal shelter. Most needed items: martingale collars, bleach, non-clumping clay cat litter, canned cat food (preferable not shredded type), and cardboard filing boxes. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Food:

  • Neighborhood Brigade  – Helping individuals and families who have found their lives impacted by a sudden tragedy or illness. Services include but are not limited to: meal delivery, light yard/house work, dog walking, and transportation.
  • A Place To Turn providing emergency food and clothing to neighbors in the MetroWest community. Volunteer opportunities include Running a food drive (organize neighbors, work colleagues, civic organization and collect food), or Hosting a diaper drive (host by businesses, schools, congregations, civic groups, or neighborhoods).
  • Meals on Wheels – delivering meals and friendly greetings to homebound seniors. This involves picking up meals at a central location and delivering them along a pre-determined route directly to seniors in your area. To volunteer, sign up here.
  • Open TableOpen Table’s mission is to provide healthy food, friendship, and support to those in need while respecting their privacy and dignity. Volunteers needed to help first time clients with registration, potentially helping guests apply for SNAP, rent, housing applications, childcare support or simply being someone to talk to. 
  • Sudbury Food Pantry  – Accompany clients as they use the food pantry, assist with client registration, stocking shelves and picking up donated & purchased food. For information on volunteering, click here

 

Clothing/Goods:

  • Dress for Success WorchesterEmpower women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire and the development tools to help women thrive in work and in life. Volunteers needed for personal shopper, donation sorter, career center specialist, PR/marketing/fundraising, young executives for success support, YES board members, Dress for Success board members. 
  • Fresh Start Furniture – Providing free furniture and home goods to people in need. Volunteer as little as two hours per month or as much as you like. To learn about volunteer positions in a friendly, fast paced environment, visit here.
  • Household Goods Provides a full range of donated furniture and household items, free of charge, to help people in need make a home. Volunteer opportunities vary & have flexible hours. Examples include: processing donations, helping clients, working with agencies, managing donations, and serving on committees.

Domestic Violence:

  • Gifts of Hope Collaborates with town social workers and Voices Against Violence to help transition survivors of relationship/domestic violence. Gifts of Hope provides a safety net to fill the gaps after other agencies have exhausted their resources. They provide household goods and emergency financial help with rent, moving, groceries, prescriptions and the basics to get established. Field volunteers needed to pick up donations from difference residences, to deliver donations to storage sites, and to deliver directly to recipients. 1x per week, max 4 hrs. Animals:

  • Save A Dog Save a Dog, Inc is a Massachusetts-based humane society whose focus is abandoned dogs. Volunteer with transportation (both local and long distance), help with fundraising, special events, newsletter, or website (must know ASP). Visit how to volunteer for more information.
  • Lovelane Lovelane provides high-quality therapeutic horseback riding to achieve occupational, physical, speech, cognitive and other therapeutic gains, focusing on children with special needs. Volunteers groom, tack, and lead horses; encourage riders and ensure students have productive, fun and safe experience. Visit how to volunteer for more information.

Conservation:

  • Native Plant TrustConserve and promote the region’s native plants to ensure healthy, biologically diverse landscapes. Volunteers needed to give garden guides, to educate children, to update the kiosk for visitors, to practice ecological gardening, to help with philanthropy and to answer customer questions and care for plants.   • Sudbury Valley TrusteesConserves land and protects wildlife habitat in the Concord, Assabet, and Sudbury river basin for the benefit of present and future generations. For more information and to see current volunteer needs, visit the volunteer section of the website.

  • Sudbury Senior CenterThe Sudbury Senior Center supports the dignity and independence of Sudbury’s older adults with advocacy, education, and the provision of supports and services that address the intellectual, physical, and social needs of people growing older.
