Police Officer
If you’ve ever considered a career as a Police Officer, now is the time. The scenic and historic community of Sudbury, Massachusetts offers an exceptional opportunity to begin or advance your law enforcement career.
As a Sudbury Police Officer, you’ll have access to top-of-the-line equipment, including new cruisers, a motorcycle, a utility terrain vehicle, e-bikes, drones, and a state-of-the-art facility equipped with premier technology. It sounds impressive—and it is—but what if you’re concerned about learning to use it all? That’s where our commitment to training comes in.
At the Sudbury Police Department, we believe in developing well-trained, well-educated officers. We offer extensive training opportunities, encourage professional development, and support requests for specialized instruction, including some of the most advanced training available.
Education is also a priority. The department offers tuition reimbursement of up to 50% for Criminal Justice or related college courses (with a grade of B- or better). In addition, officers who earn a degree in a related field may receive an educational incentive of up to 25% of their annual salary.
Beyond training and education, the benefits are substantial. As a Sudbury Police Officer, you will be enrolled in the Middlesex Retirement System as a Group 4 employee, making you eligible for up to an 80% pension with a more favorable age and years-of-service combination than many other careers.
The department offers a competitive salary, with patrol officers having the opportunity to earn up to $105,899* after five years (including holiday pay, stipends, differentials, and a Master’s degree). This does not include overtime opportunities or paid details, which can reach $70 per hour—or $105 per hour for nights, Sundays, and holidays.
Additionally, the Town of Sudbury provides a comprehensive health insurance package, covering 70% of costs under an HMO plan, with multiple options available to meet your needs.
We encourage both academy-trained and non-academy-trained applicants to apply. Please note that all candidates must meet POST requirements, including medical and psychological evaluations, as well as an extensive background investigation.
Interested candidates should submit a cover letter and resume to Chief Scott Nix at Police@sudbury.ma.us.
