Department Assistant I – Treasurer-Collector’s Office
The Town of Sudbury is currently accepting applications for the position of Department Assistant I in the Treasurer-Collector’s Office. In this role, you will be at the center of the Town’s financial operations, providing customer service, bookkeeping, financial record-keeping and administrative support while working collaboratively with our Finance team.
Job duties include providing customer service to residents, taxpayers, attorneys, financial institutions, and the general public, explaining tax bills and resolving routine questions and complaints, receiving, processing, and recording tax payments (real estate, personal property, motor vehicle excise tax), and other municipal receivables, bookkeeping and financial recordkeeping functions related to municipal tax collections, and assisting with the day-to-day operations of the Treasurer/Collector’s Office, including conducting daily trips to the bank and post office.
Typical qualifications for this position include a High School diploma and two years of experience in general accounting or bookkeeping work or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Working knowledge of standard bookkeeping principles, procedures, records, and proficiency with standard office procedures and technology. This role involves frequent contact with the public, including taxpayers, attorneys, and financial institutions. Excellent communication and customer service skills are required, including considerable patience and courtesy. A valid driver’s license and use of personal vehicle during the work day is also required (mileage reimbursement provided).
The full pay range for this position is $23.98 – $31.53 per hour (35 hours per week). Starting salary is based on qualifications and is typically in first half of range. The Town currently utilizes a predetermined step system for annual pay increases.
